Lleucu is a Welsh flautist, woodwind repairer and flute teacher based in Cardiff.

She graduated with an MMus in Flute Performance from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, studying under John Hall, Sarah Bennington, Roger Armstrong and Sarah Newbold. While studying for her master’s degree Lleucu became particularly interested in the workings of her flute and proceeded to investigate this further. Lleucu trained with Lynne Williams and Richard Hamer at the Trevor Head Brass and Woodwind Instrument Repair School, completing both the Foundation and Advance skills courses. Lleucu has also had 1 to 1 training with expert woodwind technician Daniel Bangam at Cambridge Woodwind Makers. This allowed her to expand her knowledge and skills extensively. Lleucu now specialises in Flute, Clarinet and Saxophone repairs. 

 

As a performer Lleucu has toured Wales with OPRA Cymru, and has performed with many ensembles including Cardiff Opera, Cardiff Concert Orchestra, Ignite Symphony Orchestra and the Fulltone Orchestra. As a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales between 2017-2022 Lleucu performed under the baton of maestros Carlo Rizzi, Andrew Litton and Kwamé Ryan. While at RWCMD Lleucu was a finalist for the Urdd Gobaith Cymru Bryn Terfel Scholarship and the National Eisteddfod’s instrumental Blue Ribbon competition. 

 

Lleucu plays with her sister as part of the dynamic flute duo Dwy, they specialise in a wide variety of styles, from classical to folk and electronic fusions. Dwy have extensive experience in arranging their own music, and often combine Welsh folk music, clog dancing and electronics to create new exciting visual performances. 

 

Lleucu has been supported by the James Pantyfedwen Foundation, the Leonard and Marian Jones Distinguished Music Award, Worshipful Livery Company of Wales and Split Infinitive Trust. Since starting her business, Lleucu has received grant funding from the SWEF Enterprise Fund and USW Bright Ideas Den. She is very grateful for all their support.
